Hi 4th grade fans. We've stumbled along the way in blogging. Some students forgot--which is pretty typical for this age, but we persevere and never give up.

Here's Brooklyn with a 4th grade report from Halloween week:


Hi, I'm Brooklyn,
This week we started out going to computers. At computers we started a really fun typing lesson.
After computers we picked out special characters for a Greek god and goddess film.
The next day we looked at god and goddess pictures for information on their clothing. We also looked for regular information on them.
Later in the week we went to a really fun and scary haunted alley performed by the 5th graders. When you went in, there were heads stuck in the boxes and kids in really scary costumes and an evil scientist in his laboratory. It was sooo fun!
The next day we got to do a cool Halloween parade! It was really fun. I saw lots of different costumes such as pirates, vampires, monsters, and many, many more.
I'm glad I got to spend this week in Mrs. Drummond's class.

For a little bit more up-to-date news. This week (yes we're behind on blogging), is SEP's. It was unanimous--all the students gave a hip hip hurray at getting out early all week!

Brynlee is our first student who has earned all her mini-quest beads. She still has spacer beads to earn, but what a great accomplishment.

The students have also been assigned parts for our 3 one-act Greek plays. We'll be needing a lot of parent help and support for costumes and set design. They're really excited about the plays and their Greek characters. I'll be entering our film into the Technology Symposium film festival. As they are writing their monologues for their characters, I think it'll make our entry extra special.

Ahhh sorry blog fans, but you'll have to hear from me again.

We just had a fabulous Red Ribbon Week. The title of our class book is "We'd Rather Be a Bug Than do Drugs." The students made their choice of different bugs out of pre-cut parts (Thank you Pebbles in My Pocket). They glued their own faces onto the bug bodies. Our book turned out buggylicious if I don't say so myself. We welcome you to come check out our bug book. It's currently in the library.

Thursday our class won the Color Your World chalk drawing. Mrs. Jepsen helped us draw a huge treasure chest. Each student drew his or her coin in the chest and he or she got to draw their name in the coin. I wrote the words "These Treasures Are Priceless" on the chest. Thanks to Nygle who drew our skull and crossbones with the words "Drugs Kill" under our treasure chest. Each student won a can of Sunkist soda pop. What awesome kids!

On Friday we tied with a 5th grade class in having the most students with braided or twisty hair.

We did not have a roping tournament on Friday. We held class council and discussed roping. It has been noticed that students are not practicing during the week at all, but then they want to have a tournament and win the prizes on Friday. We talked about how this is not right or fair. They have the opportunity to earn back the roping tournaments. Good luck class.

And in between all that we did regular school work as well! It was a pretty hoppin' week.

Howdy 4th grade fans. Mrs. Drummond here. The last week and a half were very busy.

On Monday, we got new chairs for our classroom! Gone are the heavy, old, yellow chairs with the many broken parts. We now have brand-spankin' new, lighter, granite chairs. Too bad they didn't come equipped with an automatic pillow for those seemingly long days.

On Wednesday we had our annual field trip to Staheli's Farm. The students participated in special mini classes made especially for 4th graders. They saw live animals, learned about bees, learned how long it takes to make a pizza (would you believe 5 years!), and also had a slice of pizza and chocolate milk. We came back to school and had a picnic on the lawn. All in all it was a fun day and a nice change from the norm.
A big heart-felt thanks to the volunteer parents who accompanied us on our field trip. You make my job easier.

On Friday we held our weekly roping contest. Zach and Brynlee were our esteemed winners for the week. Congrats you two.

This week is a short one (Hurrays all around).

On Tuesday, the students played a Jeopardy game about the Greek Gods and The Lightning Thief. For the rest of the day I had the theme song stuck in my head.

We also started our cute Halloween decorations with the help of Mrs. Jepsen, Mrs. Hafen, and Mrs. Gooch (thank you gals). Hopefully there are over 2 dozen mini crashing witches adorning your homes by the time I write this blog.

On Wednesday, we finished up our Halloween witches (thanks Mrs. Hafen). We also got our long awaited Walk-a-thon party (smoochies to Mrs. Aikens).

The students got their Great Harvest bread and butter and fruit treats. They also got an hour of the infamous Jumpin' Jax slide. I even braved the stairs (it was really more of a hike) to hurtle my tender body down the steep slide. What a rush. Not to be out-done by me, Mr. Esplin AND Mrs. Aikens followed suit and went down the slide as well. Can I get a big hip hip hooray for the old people?

Soooo I hope you all have a great Fall Break and come back all relaxed and ready to start school again on Monday, October 20th.

Let me just mention that's it nearly time for the Halloween panic. Yay me.

Hi! My name is Katarina. I am the blogger of the week. This is my story.

Monday –
I love mornings! Today we had computers. I think computers are fun. I love reading the Sea of Monsters and going to recess.

After lunch things get harder. Today we did an angle assignment in Math. I struggled, but I made it. At the end of the day I beat Tyson in checkers! Then we stacked and packed and went home.

Tuesday –
It was a busy morning. First computers, then library, then reading Sea of Monsters, then P.E. – Whew!

Today we had one of my favorite lunches – Teriyaki Chicken with rice – Yum! A good lunch makes the afternoon go by fast.

Wednesday –
In the morning we went to music. We are learning to play the recorder. We practiced the notes G – A – B a million times. We can play two songs, “Mary had a Little Lamb” and “Cross Hot Buns”. The music is a little squeaky and it hurts your ears.

In the afternoon we had a sub, Mrs. Nyberg, and we worked on Scholastic News. Tonight we have a homework assignment to read with our parents about President Jefferson and a big piece of cheese.

Thursday –
I went to the orthodontist and got my spacer off. My mouth feels weird but better. When I got to school we were making comic strips.
Mine is about a girl who plays a joke on her friend.

This afternoon we made fraction slips and it was really fun.

Friday –
In the morning we had the roping tournament. Today I got zero, but I had fun! We did a check-up test to get us ready for the Math test. We had a short recess. Then we did the Math test.

We had a problem with kids sneaking into the classroom during lunch, so we didn’t get to play Schoolopoly. Hopefully we will get to play on Monday.

This week was sooo fun. We got our Camp Half-Blood necklaces, and we earned the Camp Half-Blood bead by taking the quiz about The Lightning Thief. We earn them by doing mini quests. It's a lot of beads! It's the best! I can't wait to earn more.

Our class has a lot of sponsors for the walk-a-thon. We're ahead of all the classes. The walk-a-thon and the roping tournament is on Friday. Our class is singing My Wish. I can't wait. We're using the metal cow for the roping tournament this time.

The tournament was the best. Ethan and Emily won the roping tournament.

Our blog will be updated on Monday as Emily, our blogger for the week, has asked for an extension. She would like to be given the weekend to write about our "Talk Like a Pirate Day" party on Friday, and she didn't feel like she had adequate time.

Hello! Emily speaking or I guess you could say writing. This week has been fun as always.

On Monday we started something called working in the lunch room. This includes washing dishes, serving food, washing the tables, and being hall monitors. This is very fun for us all.

On Tuesday we had a rodeo assembly. We enjoyed hearing what activities were going to be a the rodeo.

On Wednesday we read "The Sea of Monsters" for the second time. We enjoyed hearing about Percy's friend Tyson. Of course not the Tyson in our class. We all know that he's not hairy. We also enjoyed hearing about Annabeth who purposely stabbed an evil, I guess you could say giant. Yeah for Annabeth! She saves the day!

It was also Mr. Prince Day who is now and forever our favorite Grand Marshal--not to mention all the little cowgirls and cowboys running around. Oh and I forgot to say that he was the birthday boy!

On Thursday we all finished our pirate place mats that included drawing the compass rose, crinkling it up, and laminating. It was fun to color it too.

On Friday we had a pirate party. We enjoyed learning pirate phrases like 'ahoy matey' and 'arg! me hearty.' We also ate sea biscuits and stick candy. We colored pirate pictures and listed to Pirates of the Caribbean music. Sounds pretty much like all weird pirate stuff. Well it was except take out the weird part.

So we pretty much had a terrible week--just kidding!

P.S. Also on Friday we all got our own pirate name. Mine was "Parrot-Got-Me-Eye Ramona."

Monday we started out going to computers and we did our Me Poem, then we read. Next we went to lunch. Lunch is never new. After that we read again then had recess then we had a test that was alright. We read our own books and went home.

Tuesday we went to computers, library, and P.E. in a row. We read "The Lightning Thief" before P.E. Later we wrote some words about a_e, ai, and ay adn we did vocabulary. Me, Emily, Brooklyn,, Andrew, Katarina, and Nina got 100% on the math test! We did the estimation jar then worked in our gods and goddesses books then read and went home.

Wednesday we went to music then we read. It was Ethan and Erik's birthday. Lunch was ok. It was sloppy joes. We read and did math. We finished "The Lightning Thief." We went on the computer and looked at the website about the book and ate treats for Ethan's birthday and went home.

Thursday we started by going to music and everything else was the same except we got to do cabin doors for "The Lightning Thief." It was fun. After all that we got ready and went home.

Friday we did our roping tournament and did math after that. We did our cabin doors again and went to lunch then got ready and went home.

*Teacher note: Super job Christopher! The class earned back the priviledge to play Schoolopoly again. I hope they continue to be able to play.
We had our first spelling assessment on the long a pattern/rule. These students got 100%:
Aubrey, Nygle, Brody, Trey, Robert, Nina, Karissa, Miranda, Andrew, and Brynlee.

On Monday we had no school because it was Labor Day.

On Tuesday we had a test and Christian got 100%. It was cool.

On Wednesday we had music. We played April Showers.

Thursday we played math games.

Friday we had a roping tournament and Nina and Trey won. It was really cool.

I'm Christian. Today is the 25th of August, 2008. We are doing some editing, and we are getting ready to go to recess.

Today is August 26, 2008. We are getting ready to go to P.E.

Today is August 27, 2008. We just got back from music, and we are doing editing. This is the end of the day. Tomorrow we are having our second math test.

Today is August 28, 2008. All week we have been getting out at 1:15!

Today is August 29, 2008. We are having our roping tournament! And this is the last day that I can write because it is Friday, and today we are going to post my writing!

My name is Nina. This week is the 2nd week of school August 18-22nd. On Monday we did an art project. The art project didn't have a name as far as I know. But when we did the art project we couldn't talk because we had music on. And that was one of the rules. The art project was pretty fun. You had to keep drawing as long as the music was playing.

Math was pretty fun. On Monday we had all these questions that went to a graph. It wasn't very hard. Actually it wasn't hard at all. We got to make our own graph too. We had our first math test.

This Friday we're playing Schoolopoly and on Thursday we had our first roping tournament.

We're finishing up our comic strips. We're editing and proof reading marks.
